Sometimes my husband and I have conversations about big issues and ideas. (Sometimes he just listens to me rant.) One such conversation occurred a few months ago as we were heading home from seeing Captain America: Civil War. It went a little something like this:
Me: You know, I’m loving the increasing diversity in superhero movies. In that movie, there were several women, several Black men.
Him: Yeah, it’ll be really cool to see Black Panther’s story. (more…)
After basic physical and emotional needs, there’s one need that drives people: the need for self-fulfillment, for meaningful achievement. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs refers to this as self-actualization.
I feel that, Mr. Maslow. I do. There’s so much I want in this life, so many goals I want to achieve. That same drive and ambition is reflected in people around me. We’re always pushing ahead, striving for an ideal situation. And we’ll be truly happy when we get there.

A couple months ago, I imagined a world in which Hemingway and Fitzgerald discovered Twitter. Today, it’s Shakespeare’s turn.
That’s my interpretation, anyway. What other famous, before-the-time-of-Twitter writers should I tackle?

You’d probably think she was someone’s grandmother, right? And you wouldn’t be wrong. This 74-year-old woman is, in fact, a grandmother. Even a great-grandmother.
And that’s what officials saw as they turned her away from restricted areas, likely assuming she was confused, an elderly lady misdirected on the way to her seat. (more…)
